Two new books explore unreleased recordings

Update (12/9/02)
Azing Moltmaker, the Dutch author of "The Album Collection," a series of separate hardcover books on each legitimate Beatle album, has turned his attention to Beatle bootlegs with the first two volumes in "The Bootleg Collection." Volume 1 is "The Get Back Sessions, Part 1", (see left), a look in words and pictures at the recording sessions and the bootleg releases they've appeared on worldwide, while Volume 2 is titled "Yellow Dog," a pictorial history (with track listings) of Beatle and solo Beatle releases on the label.

The "Get Back Sessions" volume begins with the earliest GB sessions releases (the many configurations of "Get Back To Toronto" on vinyl) and goes through Yellow Dog's CD "Day By Day Series Vol. 17". Vol. 1 only discusses the Camera A filming; Camera B filming at Apple and Twickenham will be discussed in Vol. 2.)

The Yellow Dog book starts with the very first disc, "Unsurpassed Masters Vol. 1," and includes all its associated labels, plus a look at some unreleased artwork.

Both books, which include a section of color pictures, are worth having, but we especially find the Yellow Dog volume fascinating. Both are available through the website http://www.beatlesfannext.com/. (Thanks to Roger Bruneel and Azing Moltmaker.)

(8/14/02) Bootleg collectors may be interested in two new books under the heading "The Bootleg Collection" put out by the Beatles Fans Next Generation Club in the UK. Volume 1 is titled "The Get Back Sessions" (£13/approx.$19) while Volume 2 is titled "Yellow Dog" (£17/approx.$25). Both books will be published on 19 August 2002 and will be officially launched at the Beatles Convention in Liverpool on Aug. 25, but advance orders are being taken at their website. Shipping charges have yet to be determined, because book weights aren't yet available, but Roger Bruneel tells us that info will be up on the website when it's known. We'll give more details on the books when they are available.

Bruneel also said that the club has also published the Beatles' Album Collection that already has 10 volumes in the series, the most recent one being "Magical Mystery Tour," published at the begiining of May. Those are available through the site.
