The Eleanor Rigby Experience (8/19/99) There are many Beatle cover albums, but very few really good ones. The Eleanor Rigby Experience's is one of those. Tina McBain's soaring solo vocal at the opening of "Eleanor Rigby" kicks the album off and sets the tone. The group includes former members of Jethro Tull, Fairport Convention and Electric Light Orchestra Part II. As the band's bio states, the group doesn't try to imitate the Beatles, just artistically interpret their music. And that they do, through a mixture of acoustic rhythms and textures (with the interesting exception of "With a Little Help From My Friends," given a harder edge than the rest of the songs on the album). You can hear clips and get ordering details on the album at http://www.raconteurs.demon.co.uk/thealbum.html. It's a really wonderful album, one we highly recommend.
